United fans have praised Luke Shaw’s mentality after he vowed to fight for his Old Trafford career and hit back at people who have called him fat.
In an in depth interview with reporters on United’s pre-season tour of America the left back opened up on his relationship with Mourinho and explained he will wait until he has proved himself before he signs a new deal at the club.
“I don’t think I would want to sign a contract right now because I want to prove to people that I deserve a contract,” he said. “I don’t want a contract because maybe in the next year or so I’m a free agent, so maybe they might look to tie me down for that.
“I want to sign a contract because I deserve it and the club want me to sign one.”
The 23-year-old’s comments have impressed United fans who are desperate for him to succeed at the club and are confident this can be a big season for him.
Matty Willock heading for St Mirren loan
St Mirren boss Alan Stubbs hopes to have United midfielder Matty Willock signed on a season-long deal very soon.
The 21-year-old was on loan at St Johnstone in the second half of last season where he scored one goal in 12 appearances.
